The Love of My Life: Sally Owens

Practical Magic is one of my all time favorite movies, I rewatch it at least once a month and probably once a week in October. It was the first movie I bought on DVD and an amazing story about love and its many forms. So it seems only fitting to start this exploration with her.

Sally Owens was my inspiration to start taking a look at other movies for style advice. I love her style which is so funny because from middle school to my sophomore year of high school I had a vendetta against skirts and dresses. Honestly, I think I had a vendetta against being a girl. Now that I'm older I'm reconnecting with my feminine side and I love dresses even though I don't wear them much because of winter.

Sally Owens is just everything I want to be, she has an effortless beauty and her growth is moving. Her style is pretty simple but it's impactful. Why is that?

When you look at Sally's outfits throughout the movie there's a pretty simple formula:

sheath dress + light cardigan or flowy skirt + camisole + light cardigan

Her style is feminine but easy, she's a mom and a business owner, there's not a whole lot of fanciness or frills in her life but she hasn't lost her womanly charms, after all this is her love story. Even her hair and makeup are simple and easy. Sally's hair is either braided or is wavy from sleeping in braids. Her style also totally reads spring/summer despite Practical Magic often being put off as a fall or Halloween movie.

Thankfully, because her style is so simple and classic it's really easy to replicate with a trip to the thrift store or a quick Amazon search. I don't currently own any sheath dresses but I do have 3 skirts and 2 camisole tank tops that work perfectly to replicate the style. I have found some cute options for dresses and skirts online and I'll link them at the end of this post if you want to try and recreate Sally Owen's style yourself. Overall her style is simple, easy, and beautiful. Of course we can't talk about Sally Owens without taking a look at her equally, but differently beautiful sister Gillian Owens. But that will be next week so until then...
